As a musician I have access to little moments that audience members might not see. You have to be quick. You have to be watching. I always try to capture a moment with love and respect for the musician/s in the photo (as I would hope people would do when taking photos of me). Truthfully I consider all jazz musicians to be my family.. some family members don’t really like you, and some you like more than others.. you have that crazy Uncle that always gets drunk at the family gathering and the naughty nieces that run around shouting. But they’re all my family, and I love them, and I love being part of it all. There are special parts of being a musician and choosing this life (in the old school way, not the ‘start a tiktok’ and ‘promote your spotify’ way) that only other musicians can understand. It will lift you up, it will take you closer to the centre of all things, it will break your heart. It is the mistress to end all mistresses. When you know, you know.
